ReObjectification: Art + Object
group show of art + objects with links to their source inspiration



Forty artists directly reference existing art, objects or found materials.  The exhibit explores relationships between source material and how information is translated, recontextualized and presented.

Zea Mays Printmaking: Liz Chalfin


FERRIN GALLERY and DREAM AWAY LODGE present Zea Mays Printmaking in the Loo(s), an exhibition series featuring prints by member artists of Zea Mays Printmaking, Florence MA.  Prints in the Loo @ Ferrin Gallery are displayed in conjunction with a summer-long exhibition series at the Loo Gallery at Dream Away Lodge, Becket MA.

For ReObjectification: Art + Object this artist, designer and studio potter produced porcelain functional ceramic forms that interpret ordinary kitchen objects using references to the form and function of human cells, based on her work with a scanning electron microscope.

Artists from THERE are HERE October 8 - 10th

Long weekends in the fall mean artists from outside the area are speaking, exhibiting and demonstrating throughout the Berkshires (bonus: incredible leaves to see while you drive between the events)

THURSDAY:

HERE - “Ten Years of Re-Imaging North Adams" - Artist Salon - moderated discussion with curators Leslie Ferrin, Ven Voisey, Jonathan Secor discussing the impact of ten years by MASS MoCA as revealed through photography, painting and mixed media (MCLA Gallery 51, North Adams) with artists from both here and there.

Artists include: Kay Canavino, Gordon Chandler, Laura Christensen, Joan Diamant, Wendy James, Jaye Fox, Joe Fusaro, Wendy Goldberg, Amanda Hartlage, J.C. Jorgerst, Phelan Levall, Melanie Mowinski, John Mitchell, David Ricci, Greg Scheckler, Nicholas Whitman, and Michael Zelehoski.

Something is changing in the Berkshires other than the leaves when there are 3 contemporary visual arts events on 1 weekday night (Thursday) in the shoulder season. Brazilian-born photographer Vik Muniz discusses his work and artistic process, which often incorporates unconventional materials (chocolate sauce, peanut butter) WCMA recently acquired ten Memory Renderings from the artist’s 1989-2000 series “The Best of Life,” drawn from his recollection of a book that featured iconic photographs from Life magazine between 1936 and 1972.

Jessica Hess & Wayne Canepa spent much of this summer playing Exquisite Corpse, one of the surrealist's favorite art games. Using pen and ink on paper, Hess a noted young Boston / Berkshires based painter and emerging artist Wayne Canepa, shared the drawing process. "It is a fun venture into your friend’s imagination and creating corpses can be a lot like raising Frankenstein".

FYI - Loo Gallery is an intimate space for quiet contemplation at the legendary Becket landmark restaurant, bar and lounge.
